SIMON EDMONDSON Born in London in 1955, Edmondson has been living and working in Madrid for some years now, where he has shown at Jorge Mara's, one of the most exclusive galleries in the Spanish capital; a great personal exhibition of his works, presented by Francisco Calvo Serrales, has been held at the Deutsche Bank. From the majestic landscapes, whose hues remind of the colours of the English damp countryside, to the intense shapes and contemporary scenarios, Edmondson's painting, which does not conceal references to Tiziano and Velasquez, is defined by a strained stroke deeply bound to reality. In this sense the artist's critical conscience turns out to be a direct follower of the British visual tradition. Edmondson has held personal exhibitions in London, New York, Madrid, Bilbao, Zurich and Neutchatel; in the last years he has also participated in the most important international art fairs.
