ZORAN MUSIC
Selected works

On Saturday 28th May at 6 pm Galleria Torbandena will open an exhibition dedicated to Zoran Music's art. On exhibit there will be some of the most beautiful and significant works created by the artist from Gorizia; selected among those already put on show at the Galleria Torbandena in its space in the last decades, these works have now been collected into a catalogue which will be published on purpose for the occasion. .

Some 30 paintings - now belonging to important private collections - sketch out a path which goes thorough, in a synthetic but substantial way, the artist's complex creative walk, marked by many different seasons, or even better, passions and memory exercises which left a profound sign on his career. The Cavallini Istriani created in the second half of the 40s, the lyricism of Umbrian and Siena landscapes of the 50s cover the temporal line of the places where Music used to live.

The reading of the Venetian theme starts with the delicate watercolours from 1947/48 and ends fading into the blurry monochrome canvases of the 80s - the facades of the houses and the canals of the Giudecca, slender and reduced to their lowest terms as well as the phantasmagorical figuration which Music creates in the last twenty years of his activity - as if it would record the descending parabola of his life through a series of dramatic and rarefied images.

It is the natural evolution of the tribute to the agonizing memory of Dachau's experience which had appeared again in his works in the 70s. To this aspect the gallery gives a powerful visibility through the exhibition: pastels, gouaches and canvases reflecting the dread and imposing the duty of memory.

The retrospective is part of a series of international tributes to Zoran Music: in April the Albertine Museum in Wien will pay its homage; in May an exhibition entitled We are not the last will open in Dachau; still in May the small formats of an important private collection will be put on show in Gorizia, Music's hometown; and finally in July the IVAM of Valencia will offer a presentation comparing about a hundred works each by Music and by Whistler on the Venetian theme.

The exhibition will be open until 30 June 2005.
