On Friday, August 31 at 19.00, Galleria Torbandena opens Naturgenia. A solo exhibition of Carlos Matallana, artist born in 1956 in Lanzarote (Canary Islands).
Formed in the fine arts Academy of Tenerife and Barcelona. At the end of his studies he moved to the School of Visual Art of New York, where he remained for a long period. Once he returned home, typical of the Canary Islands pictorial tradition, his main subject of investigation will be the nature.
His descriptions of the world are able to stir realistic representations in soft geometric abstractions, with great fascination and in an a spontaneous way. On the other hand his soft landscapes are plenty of forms and colours without rules, with a determined symbolic flavour.
Lyric and touching at the same time, the Naturgenia from Carlos seems to front the tentacles of the overbearing destruction by concrete that from years are plaguing his islands. The power of the paintings of Matallana resides in the light, the light of nature which uses the colours as a man uses his lungs to give breath to his howl of help.
The images change, but the light is essential: defines the reason of painting, determines the sensuality, that magic and silent howl that unveils the absolute abandonment of the soul of the artist to the beauty of his territory.
In the exhibition also a series of eight pencil on paper representing trees.
The poetic of these drawings is also appreciated in his works on canvas, revealing his skills as illustrator.
The show will be open until the end of September 2007.
Opening: August 31, 7.00 pm.
Timetable: Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 1 pm and 4 pm - 7.30 pm.
