On Saturday, October 13, at 6 p.m. Galleria Torbandena will present a selection of works by some of the most important European artists of the XX Century, as a celebration for the thirtieth anniversary of Andy e Alessandro Rosada leading the Gallery.
Andy Rosada, with a background in the Italian informale and spazialismo from the fifties, and his son Alessandro, with a formation in Trieste in a neo-expressionist cultural environment, bring us along an ideal itinerary in the thirty years of their activity, exhibiting twenty works of their favorite artists from the historical avant-garde.
Galleria Torbandena has lately focused its attention on contemporary art, collaborating with young, internationally acclaimed artists from different countries. However, the passion for some classics is still there and at the international art-fairs where Galleria Torbandena participates, such as Kö, Madrid and Bologna, young artists are intentionally exhibited together with the masters of the last century.
This exhibition is a special one. The human figure is at the center of the research of many of the works: some examples are the Testa from Pablo Picasso coming from the historical Galerie Louise Leiris, the Cariatide from Amedeo Modigliani, the Lettori from Andrè Masson, the Cucitrice by Andrè Lhote (small canvas, sketch of a large painting presented at the Salon d'Automne in 1913), or the bronze Reclining Figure by Henry Moore. Then the figure seems to liquefy in the works of the thirties by Joan Miró and by Julio González, while appears stylized in a delicate tempera by Marino Marini. Landscapes are represented in a small canvas by Egon Schiele from 1907 while still lifes are found in the works of Morandi and De Chirico.
The exceptional canvas from 1922 by Nina Kogan (favorite student of Malevich) and the black "Cretto" by Alberto Burri drive our view to the pure abstraction. Finally, and probably the most fascinating work of the show: a large "paravento" painted by Giacomo Balla nel 1918, on parachute canvas, which closes the exhibition.
The show will be open until November 8, 2007.
Opening: Saturday, October 13, 6.00 pm.
Timetable: Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 1 pm and 4 pm - 7.30 pm.
